Kia began in 1944 as Kyungsung Precision Industry, a Korean maker of bicycle parts and steel tubing, and adopted the Kia name in 1952. Its earlier identity used more conventional wordmarks and, from the 1990s, a red oval badge that framed the KIA letters on vehicles worldwide.
In 2021, Kia introduced a sharply connected, rhythm-like wordmark and dropped the oval, aligning the identity with its Plan S strategy and a stronger focus on electrification, mobility services, and contemporary design.
