Perodua was incorporated in 1993 as Malaysia's second national car company, with the name derived from Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua, meaning Second Automobile Manufacturer. Its badge has long used a compact oval form containing a stylized P and the numeral 2, directly referencing the brand name and its position in Malaysian automotive history.
The red and green color split has become the most familiar expression of the Perodua identity, giving the emblem a distinctly Malaysian mass-market character while separating it from the earlier national car identity of Proton.
