Tata Motors began in 1945 as Tata Engineering and Locomotive Co. Ltd. (TELCO), originally focused on locomotives and engineering before entering commercial vehicles through a collaboration with Daimler-Benz in 1954.
The Tata wordmark and stylized T emblem are connected to the wider Tata Group identity, which was modernized in the late 20th century as the group expanded internationally. The current emblem uses a simplified, curved T form inside an oval-like frame, giving the mark a technical, corporate, and mobility-focused character. Tata Motors adopted the Tata name in 2003, aligning its vehicle branding more directly with the Tata Group identity.
