Tatra traces its industrial roots to 1850, when Ignác Šustala founded a carriage workshop in Kopřivnice, then part of the Austrian Empire. The Tatra name was adopted in the early 20th century after vehicles from Kopřivnice proved themselves on demanding routes in the Tatra Mountains.
The modern brand identity is centered on a bold red oval containing the white TATRA wordmark, a compact emblem strongly associated with Czech heavy trucks, off-road chassis, and long-distance rally competition. Its visual language has remained direct and mechanical, favoring strong contrast and simple geometry over decorative detail.
