Lexus was introduced in 1989 as Toyota's luxury vehicle brand after the internal F1 flagship sedan project that produced the original LS 400. The Lexus emblem, a stylized letter L set inside an oval, appeared with the brand launch and was developed to give the new marque a distinct premium identity separate from Toyota.
Its simple metallic form has remained largely consistent, with refinements focused on proportion, three-dimensional chrome treatment, and digital clarity rather than major symbolic changes.
