Daimler

The Daimler name traces to engineer Gottlieb Daimler and the early DMG (Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft) company; DMG adopted the three-pointed star as a symbol in the early 20th century to signify mobility on land, water and air. In 1926 DMG merged with Benz & Cie to form Daimler-Benz, and the three-pointed star combined with Benz heritage became the enduring basis for the Mercedes-Benz emblem. Over the decades the corporate identity around the Daimler name evolved from Daimler-Benz to DaimlerChrysler (1998–2007) and later Daimler AG; in 2022 the automotive activities were reorganized under the Mercedes-Benz Group name while the historic Daimler name remains associated with the company’s long engineering heritage.
