Daimler began as a British marque in 1896 when H. J. Lawson acquired rights to use the Daimler name in the United Kingdom, making it one of Britain’s earliest car manufacturers.
Its identity developed around a formal wordmark, often rendered in a flowing script that suited its long association with luxury saloons, limousines, and royal transport. After Jaguar acquired Daimler in 1960, Daimler badging was used on more luxurious Jaguar-derived models, while the logo retained a restrained, heritage-led character. The marque has been dormant since the late 2000s, but the Daimler name remains historically associated with British prestige motoring.
